PM is excellent at doing what it was designed to do. I just use the directions on the film box. How do you obtain proper exposure in the field if your histogram doesn't reasonably approximate the RAW? You can set the display in PM to show blown highlights or blocked shadows, but the highlights are more important. It's not a raw converter, but an organizer/editor for people to work with thousands of files quickly. Hard to judge from the jpg, which can make the end points appear blocked or blown. Kinda dissapointing to not be able to see the exposure / histo of the raw. I use it with DXO Photolab 4 and Affinity photo It can import your files from the memory card and apply the metadata template you configure. Photo Mechanic is useful for setting the GPS location the image was taken Sorry that I have no answer for your issue. But I have not used it since December 2018 when I did my last wedding. That was basically the only thing that I ever used it for other than occasionally using it to reset the file time stamp for syncing files from two cameras that we forget to time sync at the start of an event. The ability to cull at a blazing speed through 4, 6 up to 10,000 images per an event. I have used PM up through version 5 build 16960 and it has always done what I needed it to do. Just assign keywords and then put them in a database to be recalled as needed - as in - search for an item, find it and have it tell me what folder or disc number the file resided on in order to retrieve, but that was somehow way too difficult and the tech support people simply had no idea of why I wanted to do it that way even after explaining why to them.
I only wanted to use it was a straight cataloging program.

Maybe it's that I've used Extensis Portfolio for 25 years and keep doing so on an older system now that they don't support or upgrade the program anymore, and that, being used to how that and its competitors seem to work, I could never wrap my head around whatever "their" way is in Oregon. Jury is out, right now, but I haven't been smitten by it the way some folks have indicated. I'd heard such rave reviews for it from folks, I thought I'd take another look at it. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

Tried to demo that software and it was basically unusable for anything I had in mind and their support people, well, let's just not go there other than to say it took them about a decade to get this "+" version together. Since I'm not actually shooting jpgs, is there anyway to get PM+ to show the thumbnail in color (without changing my camera setting from mono) from the raw file / thumbnail? When I open PM+, all my previews are in mono (applying the profile from the camera setting, apparently). I have my jpg setting in camera set to mono for EVF / LCD viewing. I'm shooting DNG only (no jpgs) for my raw files.
